Why a Travel Blog?
During this assignment I decided that I would create a Travel blog. The reason behind this decision is that in the last year I began to travel back and forth a lot to visit my boyfriend and his family in Germany. Then when he visited here or I there, we would make plans to see as much of the others home country as possible. I felt that I could use this website to document these travels over the last year, as well as any future travels that we might embark on and hopefully offer some advice along the way.
Who is it for?
My target audience would be young people ranging from twenty to thirty years old, who are generally interested in travel. I know that I might not be as glamorous as some other blogs, such as https://www.danflyingsolo.com, who has the amazing oppurtunity to work with the likes of Sky Scanner to travel the world. But I make do with what I have. I hope to share posts about international and domestic trips that I have gone on and any future ones I plan to embark on.
In order to measure the website’s overall success, when it goes live, I decided to use the websites subscription function and WordPress’ built in traffic monitors to see how well the website is doing. I will also use Google Ad Words to use keywords in my blog posts in order to boost their overall chance of reaching my target audience.
Inspirations
There are two very successful blog posts that I have taken as inspiration for my own. These are https://www.danflyingsolo.com and https://abrokenbackpack.com. Both authors of these websites have had major success in detailing their travels and the do’s and don’ts of traveling to the different parts of the world. Their websites are clear and concise and are very user friendly. Their menus are easy to navigate and very simple to find the blog posts that are relevant to you. I hope to achieve this in my own website during this assignment.
I will use the above mentioned sites as design bases for my own. Both of these sites are very clear in their design and well organised, with drop down menus to help navigate to the numerous blog posts available. They also make use of a bright colour palette in order to make their site very attractive to their users. I will also try to include as much imagery, either my own or royalty free, when discussing the various travel destinations. I think that this will vastly help my site as a travel blog is all about the visuals. You can’t sell a trip to the tropics with a dark black and white page. It needs to be as colourful as possible in order to refelect the blog’s content.
